With this surprisingly easy method, Michael Laws explains why you need to pay attention to Linear Advance, what it actually is and breaks down all the steps to tune it in (to perfection) on your 3D printer. 

 

Michael also covers what to look out for, how to know if your printer won't work with LA (and how to get round that) which printers and filaments are most susceptible to this process and what you definitely shouldn't do.

Auto generated supports in slicers are pretty good. While they’re getting better, for some models they’re can be immensely frustrating, limiting and wasteful. Often a slicer will place supports where you don’t want them, or even not place them where you later find you needed them (after the now-failed print “completed”).

 

Other times auto supports might not “grip” your awkward model sufficiently, resulting in higher fail areas. 

 

In this session Dave shows us exactly how to manipulate supports to do their job better and what to look for so you can catch and correct these issues before they happen. Then he covers how to reduce them where possible though orientation and support reduction techniques. All resulting in fewer (or hopefully no) failures. 

 

With a mix of examples so you can relate to your designs, after watching Dave’s session you’ll never be restricted by the chains of conveniently auto-generated supports again. Unless of course, you like that kind of thing.

In this thought provoking session, Jason shares the methods behind his uncanny ability to design smooth moving (easy to move, but not slack) joints for hinges and moving components. 

 

He’ll explain first how to know what your current printer’s capability is so you can design tolerances to match your setup, meaning you don’t necessarily need solid 3D printing skills before you can design clever moving projects.

 

Then he takes you through his process for designing a hinge from scratch and reveals all his must dos and don'ts to maximise printability and utility with minimal to no post-print-finishing. 

 

This is a must watch for anyone looking to expand their design for 3D printing capabilities.

Software capabilities have exploded recently allowing pretty good results - but you’ll still nearly always need to touch up the model before it’s suitable for reliable printing.

In this session design sculpting expert Malcolm De Jager shows us how to identify high-risk areas, touch up, restore details and prepare your Photogrammetry models for a perfect 3D print using the free sculpting tool Blender.
